Welcome to the official website of BIRRR – Better Internet for Rural, Regional and Remote Australia.
BIRRR is a not-for-profit, technology-agnostic, apolitical and independent volunteer organisation advocating for better telecommunications outcomes for rural, regional and remote Australians. Our work is supported by volunteers who contribute their time, knowledge and lived experience across regional connectivity, consumer advocacy and telecommunications policy.
An important update
The closure of the Regional Tech Hub is a significant loss for rural, regional and remote consumers, who will no longer have access to a dedicated, independent telecommunications support service.
Over recent years, a significant amount of BIRRR’s consumer information was transferred to, or replaced by links to, Regional Tech Hub resources. With the Regional Tech Hub website closing at the end of August 2026, some links on the BIRRR website may no longer work and some information may need to be reviewed or updated.
BIRRR is a volunteer organisation and cannot replace the Regional Tech Hub or the consumer support service it provided. We will continue our existing work providing independent information and advocacy for rural, regional and remote telecommunications, within the capacity of our volunteers.
It will take some time for us to review the BIRRR website and ensure our information reflects recent changes. We appreciate your patience during this transition.
If you are concerned about the loss of the Regional Tech Hub and independent telecommunications support for regional consumers, we encourage you to contact your local Federal Member of Parliament and let them know what the loss of this service means for you and your community.
We are more than happy to hear about new information, or any errors or inaccuracies through the FB Group page or via email.
